I am Michael Pedersen...

...a 26 year-old Caledonian poet/spoken worder and this is my boisterous and brashly assembled website of poetics.

My inaugural chapbook Part-Truths is available from Koo Press by clicking this link.

Part-Truths received a string of fine reviews, was listed by the Poetry Book Society and was a 2010 Callum MacDonald Memorial Award finalist.

My second book The Basic Algebra of Buttering Bread is available now from Windfall Books

The poems touch on myriad themes including folklore, nuances in nature, societal befuddlement and altruism; some sample pieces can be viewed by clicking on the About Us tab.

Also please join our facebook group Pedersen Poetry to be kept up-to-date with forthcoming publications and live readings.

For live readings I recommend a vist to Puff Poetry

In addition to the above, I am co-captain/circus master (with Kevin Williamson) of Neu! Reekie! - a monthly night of avant-garde film, poetry and music fusions.

Tom Bryan, Poet, Arts Officer:
Michael Pedersens poems are accomplished and memorable ...... full of original images and sensuous detail. His first small collection is studded with humour, acute perception, exotic scenes and detail. Its geography and poetic landscape are huge and varied, hence appealing.

Stephen Fry, ‘National Treasure’.
Michael’s poems are so physical you can almost touch the images in them. Fabulously sensual and alive. I adore poetry like this.

Aly Barr, Literature Officer, Scottish Arts Council:
Michael Pedersen somehow pulls off the trick of writing poetry that is dense, yet lets the light in, eloquent, yet erudite and laced with wit, and (vitally) that constructs a story woven from the choicest cuts of words, imagination and memory.

Dr Wayne Price, Creative Writing Conveynor, University of Aberdeen:
In Michaels poetry I enjoy the tension between revealed personal vulnerability and a kind of defiant, performative exuberance. Verbal play and energy are always present in the work, it is powerful with a plangent, moving directness.

Colin Will - Poet & Convener of the StAnza Poetry Board:
Michael Pedersen struck me as a young poet to watch for the future.

Tony Williams Poet/Reviewer – Reviewing for HappenStance:
There’s something very winning about the persona in Michael Pedersen’s pamphlet, and the persona is everything. The poems are sprawling, gauche, affairs giving the sense of a bombastic, disaffected young man, cynical but idealistic, half in love and half in hate with the Scottish town he inhabits.

Doug Gray, Founder of Koo Press:
Michael Pedersen’s work is at times like a bottle of fizzy lemonade, the words sparkle off the page and the turn of phrase can make you both draw breath and raise a snigger.

The Future

I have spent the last year self-exiled in Cambodia: teaching and completing my first full collection, whilst assembling script. Since returning I have launched Neu! Reekie! (an avant-garde mix of poetry and film) and been performing spoken word with hit folk band Emelle and London based singer-songwriter Billy Page.

I am also a member of the Creative Team of ‘Dream Tower Inn’: a, BBC featured, pluralistic play and forthcoming motion picture depicting contemporary Scotland. A full biography of team (which includes Breon George Rydell, esteemed director and composer, and Gianni Scumaci, internationally revered visual artist) is available at DTI – Creative Team Tab.

Bon Courage
